Flexible list input
Accepts common ways of separating a number list.
Enter a list of numbers separated by commas, spaces, semicolons, or new lines to calculate its average and supporting summary values.
Average (mean) = sum of all values / number of values. The range runs from the minimum value to the maximum value.
Accepts common ways of separating a number list.
Shows count, sum, minimum, and maximum.
Keeps decimal precision for further calculation.
The arithmetic average, also called the mean, is the total of all entered values divided by the number of values. It is useful when every observation should carry equal weight, such as a simple list of scores, daily quantities, measurements, or invoice amounts.
Paste values in a comma-separated list, or separate them with spaces, semicolons, or new lines. The calculator ignores empty separators and shows the count, sum, minimum, and maximum alongside the mean so you can quickly check whether a missing, duplicated, or unusual number may affect the result.
A simple mean is not always the correct metric. Weighted grades, weighted prices, interest rates, grouped data, and percentages with different denominators may need a weighted average. Large outliers can also make the mean less representative, so compare it with the range and consider a median when appropriate.
| Input | What it means | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Values | The numbers to average | Separate values with commas, spaces, semicolons, or lines. |
| Count | Number of valid values entered | Check this against the intended number of observations. |
| Sum | Total of valid values | Useful for auditing the mean calculation. |
| Average | Sum divided by count | Use a weighted calculation when observations have different weights. |
Find a simple average of quizzes or assignments.
Average recurring costs across months.
Calculate a mean from repeated test or field readings.
Add the values and divide the total by how many values there are.
Yes. Line breaks, commas, spaces, and semicolons are accepted.
No. Every entered value has equal weight; use a weighted formula when weights differ.
A mean is sensitive to unusually high or low values; review the range and source data.
